Newtowners: Juliette Swenson

Juliette Swenson owns and run the Twelfth Night Inn on East Beverley Street with her husband John. A native of Bath England, she has taken an active interest in the New Town. In addition to developing "Anne Hathaway's Garden," she is in the process of buying commercial and rental properties that can be developed in the area.

Anne Hathaway's Garden is a particularly exciting project for her. Located at 950 W. Beverley near the Gates to Thornrose Hill Cemetary, Juliette has taken over five vacant lots and is in the process of making them into a showcase garden. The garden focuses on plants largely native to Virginia, but is inspired by Ann Hathaway's garden in Stratford on Avon, where according to legend Shakespeare courted his wife.

Long term plans are for the garden to become a café and bed and breakfast garden and inn. The main feature of the café will be its unique construction, which will include an Elizabethan thatched roof.
